Healthcare workers in Liberia
Our Story

About the Foundation

Born from the life and legacy of Dr. Walter Traub Gwenigale — Liberia's most dedicated physician, surgeon, and public servant.

Who We Are

A Foundation Built on
Five Decades of Service

The Dr. Walter T. Gwenigale Foundation was established to honor the extraordinary life of Dr. Walter Traub Gwenigale — a man who devoted more than five decades to healing the people of Liberia. From his early days as a surgeon at Phebe Hospital to his nine years as Minister of Health under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Dr. Gwenigale embodied the belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right.

Today, the Foundation carries his vision forward through two core programs: Grow Our Own — investing in the next generation of Liberian healthcare professionals — and Preventive Maternal, Reproductive & Infant Health — ensuring that mothers, babies, and families in rural Liberia receive the care they deserve.
