Preventive Maternal, Reproductive & Infant Health

Our flagship health initiative — ensuring that every mother and newborn in rural Liberia has access to the preventive care they deserve.

Why It Matters

Healthy Mothers,
Healthy Communities

Maternal and infant health is the foundation of a thriving society. In rural Liberia, women face significant barriers to quality prenatal and postnatal care — leading to preventable complications, maternal mortality, and infant health challenges that no family should have to endure.

The Dr. Gwenigale Foundation believes that preventive care — not reactive treatment — is the key to transforming maternal health outcomes. By reaching women early, educating communities, and providing essential resources, we can save lives and build healthier futures for Liberian families.

Our Focus Areas

Comprehensive Preventive Care

Prenatal & Postpartum Mental Health

Providing accessible prenatal and postpartum mental health consultation to mothers in rural Liberia — addressing the emotional and psychological dimensions of pregnancy and new motherhood.

Maternal Health Education

Delivering maternal health care and education directly to rural communities — empowering women with the knowledge and resources they need for safe pregnancies and healthy births.

Newborn Baby Kits

Distributing newborn baby kits that support maternal, newborn, and child health — providing essential supplies to families who may otherwise lack access to basic infant care resources.

Community Health Events

Organizing community public health events that promote preventive reproductive health care — bringing education, screenings, and resources directly to the women who need them most.

Rural Outreach

Reaching the most remote communities in Liberia through mobile health outreach — ensuring that geography is never a barrier to quality maternal and reproductive healthcare.

Community Partnerships

Building lasting partnerships with local health centers, community leaders, and organizations to create sustainable, community-owned maternal health infrastructure.

Connected Initiative

Traditional Midwives &
Community Doula Initiative

A visionary program to re-establish trusted traditional midwives and community doulas in rural Liberia — bridging ancestral wisdom with modern maternal healthcare systems.

Program Vision

For generations, traditional midwives and community doulas were the backbone of maternal care in rural Liberia. This initiative seeks to honor that legacy while integrating traditional birth attendants into modern healthcare systems — creating a network of trained, supported, and respected community birth workers who can serve women where they live.

By combining traditional knowledge with evidence-based practices, we aim to reduce maternal mortality, improve birth outcomes, and restore community trust in maternal healthcare.

Midwife Training

Structured training programs for traditional birth attendants integrating modern obstetric practices.

Doula Education

Community doula certification and ongoing education to support laboring mothers.

Maternal Support

Continuous support for mothers before, during, and after birth through community doulas.
